This weeks song is a high calorie 1958 classic “Sugartime” made famous by Christine McGuire, Dorothy McGuire and Phyllis McGuire known in the music world as The McGuire Sisters. Published by Charlie Phillips and Odis Echols, the song apparently refers to the Jimmie Rogers tune “Honeycomb” which had been a hit a year earlier. Others covered “Sugartime” including Johnny Cash and well known British singer Alma Cogen who had a hit with it later in 1958 in the U.K.

I picked this lighthearted ditty because of the upbeat tempo, the guaranteed recognition factor and the fact that its so simple that singing along with the tune will be inevitable. Sometimes lighthearted and bouncy is all you need!
